There’s an old saying: “A prophet is without honor in their own country.” It’s often used to describe artists who are only recognized long after they’re gone. Throughout history, many brilliant women and men have seen their creative work valued and celebrated only posthumously — their art finally acknowledged, but too late.
In my own small way, I relate. I’ve been an artist for over 20 years, with exhibitions in places like New York and other vibrant cities around the world. And yet, when people discover this, it often seems to leave them puzzled or uninterested. Questions aren’t asked. Curiosity doesn’t follow. For many, only a handful of (mostly male) artists seem to “count,” while others are overlooked — perhaps due to lack of familiarity or understanding.
That’s why having two of my eye collages exhibited at Augenblicke here in my hometown of Mödling means so much to me. Augenblicke isn’t just the finest optician in town — with expert service and stylish, exclusive frames that align perfectly with my aesthetic — it’s also a place where my work is truly seen and respected.
I’m deeply grateful to Nikolaus Lichtenstrasser, the owner of Augenblicke, and his wonderful team, for honoring my art in this way. Every time I walk past the shop downtown, I smile — and that small daily joy is truly priceless.
If you’re ever nearby, pop in — even just for fun. You’ll be warmly welcomed.
