Approaching Egon Schiele: For years, I circled Egon Schiele’s works like a toddler trying to befriend a wild dog. I repeatedly backed away, sometimes sneaking past him, observing his paintings from a safe distance—without the necessary knowledge to truly understand them.
As is often the case with profound insights, it took a dramatic event in my life to break through this barrier. Many artists throughout history have experienced difficult health phases that expanded their creative spectrum, led them to evolve, pushed them beyond well-trodden paths, and ultimately guided them toward deeper truths. This thread runs through my own artistic journey—and my entire life.
Thus began my exploration of Schiele’s works. Viewing some of his watercolors mirrored, detached from their original context, reveals an entirely new perspective on their meaning. The details—delicate yet powerful—unveil a dormant, unborn insight into the significance and absurdity of existence. An intense and enlightening game. An experiment.
